Strawberry Watermelon Smoothie

FROST COLD AND REFRESHING (AND HEALTHY TOO)!

I’ll bet you’ve never even heard about blood ph levels and why it’s so important to maintain a slightly alkaline ph. I could give you the long bio-chemistry version, and I’ll probably do that in another post because I LOVE researching the science behind why certain foods are good for you, but right now I’ll just say that the human body has a very tightly controlled ph level between 7.3 – 7.4 that it attempts to maintain at all times; if ph goes too low or too high it can result in some very serious negative effects on your health.

I just wanted to give you this quick and easy smoothie recipe that’s both refreshing and good for you. The watermelon and cucumber are both alkalizing (this is a good thing) and the strawberries are packed with vitamin C. On a hot summer day it doesn’t get much better than this cooling (and did I mention refreshing??) smoothie that’s more like a frosty.  Enjoy!

STRAWBERRY – WATERMELON SMOOTHIE

Prep Time: 10 min

Makes 2 servings

INGREDIENTS

  • 2  cups of watermelon cubes
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh strawberries (frozen work best)
  • 1 small cucumber sliced (reserve 2 slices for garnish)
  • 2-3 mint leaves (optional)
  • 5-6 drops of liquid stevia (more or less depending on how sweet you like your smoothie)
  • 8-12 ounces chilled filtered water
  • 1 cup of ice cubes or crushed ice

DIRECTIONS

Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend until smooth. Pour into 2 large glasses, garnish with a watermelon slice and enjoy.

If you aren’t sharing and you don’t want to drink it all at one time (but I think you’ll want to) you can pour half of the smoothie mixture into a mason jar, leaving about an inch of space at the top before screwing on the lid, and place in the freezer to thaw and drink later.
